About Kilwa

The intelligence layer for Africa's next wave of investment.

Named after the historic Kilwa Sultanate — one of Africa's greatest centres of trade and commerce — our brand embodies the convergence of African heritage with frontier technology.

Why Kilwa exists

Replacing ambiguity with data-driven certainty.

Africa represents a $1.4 trillion FDI opportunity. Capital allocation decisions across the continent are still being made with tools that were not built for it: indices that refresh on a six-to-twelve month cycle, sentiment systems that only read English, and no platform anywhere that answers the timing question.

Kilwa was founded to close that gap. We ingest live macroeconomic data, policy announcements and news sentiment across all 54 African markets in English, French, Arabic, Portuguese and Swahili, and turn it into two signals institutional investors can act on: ISI for where, and METI for when.

Our mission is to unlock investment in the world's highest-potential markets by replacing ambiguity with data-driven certainty — and to do it in a way that a risk committee can interrogate line by line.

Mission

To unlock investment in the world's highest-potential markets by replacing ambiguity with data-driven certainty.

Vision

Deliver predictive insights that answer the two most critical questions in emerging-market investment: where to invest, and when.

Brand pillars

Four things we hold to.

Intelligence, not data

We don't sell raw data. We deliver synthesised, actionable intelligence that institutional investors can act on with confidence.

Africa-first, global-ready

Our technology is purpose-built for the data-scarce, multilingual, high-volatility environments of emerging markets — starting with Africa and designed to extend.

Predictive, not descriptive

While others describe the past, Kilwa forecasts. ISI and METI tell investors not just where, but when.

Trustworthy and transparent

Every score comes with an explanation. Our Explainable AI layer shows exactly what factors drive a result, because institutional confidence is the precondition for capital deployment.

Our people

Operators, scholars and engineers.

Kilwa is led by an operator who spent twenty years underwriting institutional risk, advised by a bench spanning sovereign partnerships, federal cyber, African energy and AI research, and built by an engineering team drawn from Northwestern's MSAI programme.

Hinsley founded Kilwa on a straightforward observation from twenty years inside institutional finance: the capital that should be flowing into Africa is not held back by risk, but by the absence of usable intelligence about it.
Arham AnwaarLead Developer
Arham owns Kilwa's platform engineering — the model and data layers that turn a multilingual ingestion pipeline across all 54 African markets into the ISI and METI signals institutional users see, and the interfaces they see them through.
